Project Overview

Impact for Equity (previously: BPI) is seeking a passionate and qualified digital design partner to redesign our current website. We aim to strengthen our online presence, enhance the user experience, better communicate our mission, programs, and impact to key stakeholders, seamlessly integrate with our extended online presence, and be able to easily and quickly update content. The volunteer should assess and incorporate our goals and needs and consider our key audiences. The designer should also assess our technical capabilities.

Our work will take place over multiple meetings in six to nine weeks. In our first meeting, the volunteer should interview us about our desired features, our web capabilities, and our technical expertise. Then, they'll synthesize the information into a requirements briefing. We'll engage in various check-ins, where a member or members of our team will provide feedback. The volunteer will audit our current site to create a draft of site architecture and design options including wireframes, site structure, and other visual elements.

Since its founding in 1969, Impact for Equity has been a catalyst for racial, economic, and social justice in Chicago and Illinois. We were founded with the belief that the public interest should be served by fierce advocates who take on pressing issues of inequity with determination and fearlessness.

At Impact for Equity, we address the structural racism and systemic oppression that has led to inequities and injustices in the Chicago region and Illinois, particularly for people and communities of color. We utilize a combination of legal tools, policy research, advocacy, organizing, and convening to work toward transformational change across three areas of focus: police accountability, criminal legal systems, and housing.

While there has been increased media coverage on topics at the core of Impact for Equity’s mission such as racial discrimination, economic disparities, and social issues, our organization has struggled to gain attention and pick-up of our work and impact. We have published impactful analyses on inequities in the Chicagoland area such as our recently released report entitled A New Vehicle for “Stop and Frisk”: The Scope, Impact, and Inequities of Traffic Stops in Chicago. Yet, our work is not as visible across the web, limiting our ability to build relationships with journalists, gain a platform during culturally relevant moments, and leverage our digital platforms. We believe our mission, work and passion are more relevant today than ever.

We have a full RFP ready to share with qualified volunteers. We are prepared to brief you about our current website platform, budget restrictions for the build, our branding collaterals and norms, and information about our stakeholder groups and target audiences. We've also compiled some photos and have some language developed that we will share with you and samples of sites we like.
