People of Pro Bono: Shalabh Sahai

Shalabh is the co-founder and director of iVolunteer, a pro bono provider member organization of the Global Pro Bono Network.

I’m committed to pro bono service because some of the toughest professional challenges are found beyond our structured work environments. Pro bono service provides us one of the best opportunities to use our own talents, but to apply them differently in new applications that help society. We learn a lot when we apply our skills in new environments.

The Global Pro Bono Network allows us to learn together, work together, and have fun together! I’ve experienced benefits of my membership in the Network not only for my own organization but also for my region which is so important for the larger pro bono movement. Locally, I collaborated with another Network member who helped me to source and engage corporate professionals from three continents: Asia, Europe, and Africa. Regionally, in 2015, six Asian pro bono service providers based in Singapore, Thailand, China, South Korea, Japan and India came together to conduct and publish the first study of pro bono service in Asia. The Network helps me think about my own business model, but it also creates the opportunity for multi-country projects.

The global pro bono movement is an opportunity for people from all professions, cultures, and regions to commit to the best that they can expect of themselves. It takes each participant to a whole new level of professional excellence and personal commitment towards a better world.

I am a firm believer that each of us can contribute for a better world.
