Looking For Help Applying For Grants For Our I/DD Nonprofit
The project includes:
Researching relevant local, state, and national grant opportunities.
Organizing a pipeline or calendar of upcoming grant deadlines.
Supporting the development of compelling grant proposals and applications.
Helping us draft a reusable grant template and narrative we can adapt going forward.
We envision this as a collaborative effort with clear weekly goals. You’ll be working directly with our leadership team and provided with access to our organizational history, past funding efforts, and strategic plans.
Time commitment: 2–5 hours/week over 4–6 weeks (flexible depending on your availability and our shared progress).
Inspired by this work, The TJ Carter Foundation was created to expand our impact through community-based initiatives that extend beyond traditional caregiving services. The foundation focuses on wellness, education, creative expression, workforce development, and food access. One of our signature programs is a client-choice food pantry that doubles as a training site, teaching individuals real-world job skills in a supportive, empowering environment.
The support of a skilled volunteer to help us secure grant funding will enable the foundation to:
Scale up initiatives like the pantry and workplace training program to reach more individuals.
Host innovative community events that foster connection and inclusion—like dance competitions, cooking competitions, and professional development workshops.
Launch new programs in family wellness, senior support, and enrichment for individuals with disabilities.
Strengthen infrastructure, enabling us to build sustainable systems for impact and reach more underserved populations.
Every hour you volunteer helps us build a more inclusive and empowered community. Your work will directly impact individuals who are often overlooked by traditional systems—and help us provide opportunities for growth, creativity, and independence.
Leadership Buy-In: Our executive team is fully engaged and committed to securing additional funding to scale our impact.
Prepared Materials: We’ve assembled key organizational documents including our mission statement, program overviews, service stats, budget information, and stories of impact to support grant writing efforts.
Ongoing Availability: A dedicated staff member will be available to meet weekly, answer questions, and provide timely feedback so that you’re supported throughout the project.
Sustainable Use of Outcomes: The resources you help us create (like a grants tracker or narrative templates) will be actively used by our team moving forward to build long-term funding capacity.
We want you to succeed and feel great about the time you’re investing with us—and we’re ready to do our part!
