We are a young nonprofit that is poised for significant growth. Our treasurer is an accountant who is fluent in Quickbooks, so we are seeking assistance in organizing our chart of accounts in a way that is structured to support organizational growth, contractor payments, funder reporting, grant applications and grant tracking, and aligns with various tax reporting requirements. We'd also like a review of our accounting practices to ensure they align with nonprofit standards.
A nonprofit-aligned chart of accounts will let Reduce Waste Chicago track revenue and expenses more efficiently for grant applications, improves financial transparency for funders, and supports data-driven decisions as we scale our work across Chicago.
Our founder (myself) and our treasurer are eager to collaborate with the volunteer to review our current books and discuss our needs. Project outcomes will be implemented ASAP as we prepare for our 2026 budgeting, end-of-year fundraising and impact report. We will also be using these structures to support our next grant applications. Details and access will be provided.

Organization Mission

Reduce Waste Chicago is a nonprofit organization that empowers residents to address climate change through waste reduction on a personal, producer and policy level. We accomplish this through collecting and redistributing items that can be reuse, repurposed or are difficult to recycle; educating and inspiring neighbors, schools and organizations along their sustainability journey; and advocating for policies that shift the burden of waste from individuals to producers.
