My goal for this project is to successfully apply for funding to organizations that have housing for foster youth as part as part of their primary mission. We have a plethora of documentation the volunteer can have access to so it’s basically cutting and pasting based on a particular application’s requirements.

Homelessness amongst transition aged youth is a public health crisis. Over 60% of former foster youth have to move out of San Mateo County, in order to find affordable housing, severing any relationships they have been able to make. Those who aren’t able to find housing too often end up in desperate situations doing whatever is necessary to survive. This residential village will offer five young people at a time a safe, a safe, affordable home they can call their own, while they prepare themselves educationally and through job training, for a successful adulthood.

While I will be working with the volunteer directly, we also have a project manager that can provide guidance for the volunteer. Also, we have already curated a substantial list of possible grant sources to start the process as well as successful grant applications that can be referred to.

Mission: The mission of the St. James Community Development Corporation is to support missions that address the social, quality of life, health, housing, and economic development issues that plague our community. The inaugural project of the St. James CDC is the “New Beginnings” housing project. New Beginnings will offer youth who are transitioning out of the San Mateo Foster Care System, stable, permanent housing, as well as individualized wrap around supportive services.
