My goal for this project is to assess and receive suggestions our current website from a UX perspective. The website is now 4+ years old and is showing it's age. Understanding the strength and weaknesses of our website from a UX perspective will help us address needed design elements in a future website update.
The outcome of this project will be an input develop our approach to update our website in 2026. We expect to benefit by increasing website traffic, increase followers and increase donations.
I (Jay Schierloh) personally will work this project for Orphan Shade. I am clearly not a design professional. My background is a general business type (broad, but thin experience base). I will bring my time, insight and documentation to bear to facilitate this project.

Organization Mission

Orphan girls in rural Malawi Africa that have lost both of their parents to HIV. These children have faced trauma from the loss of their parents, food insecurity, neglect and more. They exhibit behaviors such as frustration, anger, aggression, depression, lack of focus, withdrawal, frequent crying and nightmares. The child’s assigned guardian is very poor and cannot feed, clothe or send the child to school. The child’s prospects for life are not good. Orphan Shade is NOT an institutional orphanage. It is a family. The children grow up in their own village, are near their extended family, attend the local school, participate in the local church, and experience the love and care of volunteer parents. The focus is to prepare the child’s body, mind, and spirit for the future. We intend to scale this model to create new families in hundreds of villages across the southern region of Malawi. We work closely with a church network of rural village churches in southern Malawi. Members of the church leadership provide oversight and lead the effort to establish new families. The local pastor and members of the local village church volunteer their time to support and provide oversight for the Orphan Shade family.
