Boldly Going Nowhere: Why Sugarcoating Our Stories Is Harming The Nonprofit Sector And How To Stop It

What stories do nonprofits tell to the funders and donors they hope will fund them? So often, our grant proposals, donor appeals, and other communications convey false narratives that diminish the challenge many nonprofit staff face—and ultimately make it harder for nonprofits to secure the funds needed to fulfill their missions.
This session will showcase examples of “sugarcoating” our stories and recommend choices that nonprofit staff can make to shift their relationships with donors and funders towards greater transparency, honesty, and partnership.
