Project Overview

I am seeking assistance for a grant writing project to secure funding for the construction of a new physical space. This project will enable us to expand our services and better serve our community. As such, the objective would be to have a volunteer write a comprehensive grant proposal template that we can utilize for potential donors and grant-making foundations to secure funding for building a new facility for Chanzo Institute's first location.

Generational trauma often presents as socioeconomic disparities that plague Black and Brown people worldwide. Chanzo is a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to inspire radical rest and wellness to heal generational traumas and facilitate collaborative exploration of the toughest challenges facing the African Diaspora. We strive for a future where we bask in our shared prosperity and beautiful spaces for us to rest abundantly and without judgment.

The bridge between rejuvenation and revolution, Chanzo is a home for the African Diaspora who believe in healing our people to shape a better tomorrow. Chanzo means “the source " in Swahili and it is culturally used to reference the genesis or new beginnings. Chanzo Institute aims to reshape the African Diaspora's narrative and, most important, our future outcomes.

We are witnessed the most challenging times, and rather than lament in what we cannot change, Chanzo will host wellness retreats and educational workshops to explore how we might live better together and unlock our shared prosperity.

We are already 50% of the way toward achieving our goal. We've raised 500K from friends and family, we are under contract for the purchase of an existing, fully operational retreat space. We are simply in need of more power to find and pitch mission-aligned donors.

Nonprofit Overview

Chanzo Institute is a global collection of luxury healing and learning spaces for people of the African Diaspora. We inspire radical rest and wellness to heal generational traumas and facilitate collaborative exploration of the toughest challenges facing the African Diaspora. We aspire to a future where we bask in our shared prosperity and beautiful spaces for us to rest abundantly and without judgment. Our why - to plant the seeds of inspiration, rest, and support to spark collaborative action across the African Diaspora.

The bridge between rejuvenation and revolution, Chanzo is a home for the African Diaspora who believe in healing our people to shape a better tomorrow. Chanzo is “the source, " a Swahili word culturally used to reference the genesis or new beginnings.

Today we are a haven for restorative retreats and learning experiences to inspire inner and outer transformation for generations to come. Aside from accommodations for a restful getaway in our first of many Barbados space, Chanzo Institute curates workshops and activations led by the thinkers and innovators of the African Diaspora, trailblazing the path that pushes our people forward.

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and now residing in NYC, Chanzo's founder has long been dismayed by how trauma often presents as socioeconomic disparities that plague Black and Brown people worldwide. Driven to leave a positive impact on the world, Abby has spent the last 5 years exploring solutions meant to break through the systems of institutional oppression.

Resourceful and savvy, she worked with her peer circle to discover the two issues that limit our mobility toward collective progress: 1) the lack of unity across the African Diaspora and our communities, and 2) the dire need for radical rest in response to the traumatic effects of our shared experiences.

These cultural truths diminish the power of our shared social capital. In response, Abby founded Chanzo in late 2022. Her passion for her people inspired building a space that hosts luxury retreats and educational workshops to explore how we might live better together and unlock our shared prosperity. By creating a “home” that addresses these two issues, Abby believes that Chanzo will help reshape the African Diaspora's narrative and, most important, our future outcomes.
