Our mission is to create collective change and impactful policies, with a focus on waste reduction, for a healthier, more sustainable future. Habits of Waste was born out of Crayon Collection, a project that collects and reallocates barely-used crayons in order to support art education and sustainability in underserved communities. Crayon Collection remains one of our beloved projects, as our vision has now expanded into Habits of Waste (HOW). Our organization is committed to creating social change with practices and policies to face our current climate and environmental crises and ensure a more sustainable future for all. How can we make a difference? Our top-down, bottom-up approach empowers the general public and engages business and elected leaders in embracing accessible solutions to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. How we live our lives makes a difference. Through our campaigns, we have already successfully prevented over 1 billion pieces of plastic from entering the waste stream. Gradually, we are leading a cultural shift toward a sustainable future with more thoughtful human behaviors and impactful practices and policies. How do we keep up the momentum? Together.
