An engagement strategy that is beyond just the required activities, like discussing the budget. An idea could be creating a rotating schedule for board members to report out on the financials (i.e. internal controls support). I want someone to help me (1) recruit board members with relevant experience, (2) and more importantly, transition them to a high impact board. If you are willing to help out admin wise, like reminders or coaching calls with board members, that would be super ideal.

A high-functioning board will better steward our mission to support justice-impacted individuals on their path to financial health. By helping us improve recruitment, onboarding, and board engagement practices, this project will allow our team to focus more energy on direct service, community partnerships, and systems-level change. This will also help us unlock additional funding - as there are funders who only engage if there is a robust 6 person plus independent board and independent board chair (right now, the CEO serves as the board chair as their is no one with experience that has stepped forward.

We have already identified where additional support is most needed and outlined early ideas for a board engagement strategy. We’re also prepared to schedule regular check-ins and provide timely context so the volunteer has what they need to hit the ground running. Our team is committed to implementing the recommendations that come out of this project. We have job descriptions, we have an engagement agreement contract. We have finequity.org intro video recordings. We have a preliminary vetting process and online application for new board members. We have a board portal but are planning to build a better one.
