Develop STEAM Summer Camp Curriculum

My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a comprehensive, day-by-day STEAM summer camp curriculum tailored to high school students in Chicago. The volunteer will help design an in-person program that blends science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with creative outlets and social impact themes like community resilience and advocacy. The curriculum should include lesson plans, hands-on activities, learning objectives, and supply lists. We envision a two-week camp structure, but we’re open to expert guidance on pacing and flow.

Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will support our mission by helping us provide equitable access to STEAM education and creative expression for high school students. This curriculum will serve as the foundation for an annual summer initiative that empowers youth through hands-on learning and artistic exploration. The camp is central to our goal of fostering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers in underserved communities.

My team and I have prepared for this project by clearly outlining the camp’s goals, target audience, and core themes. We’ve drafted a strategic direction document and gathered inspiration from successful STEAM and youth development programs. We are prepared to provide timely feedback, ensure strong communication with the volunteer, and dedicate a point person from our team to guide the project. We’ve also secured a budget and timeline, with the goal of finalizing the curriculum by the end of August to allow time for promotion and staffing.
