Thank you for considering lending your time and talent to support BADD – Brothers Against Drug Deaths. Your expertise could make a real difference in helping us build a more just, compassionate, and responsive system for individuals struggling with mental illness, addiction, and incarceration.

Why This Project Matters:

BADD was founded out of deep personal loss and urgent need. We are a growing grassroots nonprofit advocating for policy reform, community education, and access to recovery support for families—especially Black families—impacted by the deadly intersection of addiction, mental illness, and criminal justice failures.

Our website, www.badd-sf.org, is the digital front door to our movement. It’s where funders, volunteers, grieving families, and public officials come to learn who we are and how they can get involved. As we prepare to scale up our impact through outreach, partnerships, educational campaigns, and legislative advocacy—it’s critical that our site communicates clearly, functions smoothly, and effectively tells our story.

Why You’re a Great Fit:

As a skilled Taproot volunteer, your ability to audit and assess our website structure, accessibility, SEO, and user experience can elevate our digital presence from functional to transformational. Your time and insight will directly support:

Stronger grant proposals and funding credibility

Better engagement with underserved families seeking help

More effective calls to action for policy change (like Theris Law)

A digital home that reflects the care, clarity, and community we aim to build

How This Helps the Community:

Every improvement you help us make will extend our reach to families on the margins—people who are grieving, fighting for justice, or searching for help. Your contribution will empower BADD to break cycles of incarceration and addiction and shine a light on stories too often ignored.

This is more than a technical project—it’s a mission-driven partnership to save lives and honor those already lost.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve with purpose.

We have a dedicated team member for the project who will provide you with examples of our previous social media posts, the specific number of posts and topics we’d like, as well as key points for each. Our volunteer will be provided with information on our key audiences and organizational key messages.

Organization Mission

At BADD (Brothers Against Drug Deaths), our mission is to advocate for those battling addiction and mental illness, particularly within Black and underserved communities. Inspired by the life and struggle of Theris Lee “TC” Coats II, we are committed to breaking the cycle of drug-related deaths by expanding access to treatment, support, and policy reform that prioritizes recovery over incarceration. We believe in dignity, healing, and second chances, and we work to: Provide education, resources, and advocacy to prevent drug-related deaths Promote mental health awareness and access to culturally competent care Support families navigating the complexities of addiction and mental illness Challenge systemic failures that deny people the help they need Bridge the gap between incarceration and recovery by connecting individuals reentering society with critical reentry services—including housing, employment, addiction treatment, and mental health care Partner with community organizations and justice system stakeholders to create pathways of support and opportunity for returning citizens.
