We are seeking a skilled grant writer to help us secure funding for the launch of a faith-based nonprofit thrift store that will serve as a sustainable community outreach and support model.

Headed Straight Up Ministries is a Christ-centered nonprofit dedicated to holistic transformation for individuals and families facing housing crises, addiction, trauma, and other life-controlling challenges. We are in the process of converting part of our existing office space into a 501(c)(3) thrift store that will provide:

Affordable goods for low-income families

Job training and transitional employment for those overcoming hardship

A consistent revenue stream to fund our housing, recovery, and discipleship programs

We would like a volunteer grant writer to help us:

Develop a compelling general grant proposal for the thrift store initiative

Research 3–5 local or national grant opportunities (startup capital, community development, workforce training, etc.)

Draft a basic grant calendar or toolkit we can continue using after the project

Help us communicate how the thrift store aligns with our mission of restoration, dignity, and long-term transformation

We’re looking for someone who aligns with our values and is comfortable supporting a Christian nonprofit organization. Your insight will help us build a meaningful, self-sustaining outreach model that empowers individuals and uplifts our community.

You’ll be working directly with our leadership team and will have access to our program descriptions, goals, and budget details. We’re responsive, mission-driven, and open to learning from your expertise.
This project is a critical step toward expanding the reach and sustainability of our mission at Headed Straight Up Ministries—to serve individuals and families facing crisis through Christ-centered restoration, practical assistance, and lasting transformation.

By launching a nonprofit thrift store, we are creating a powerful, multi-purpose community resource that will:

Provide low-cost clothing and essentials to families in financial distress

Offer transitional employment and job readiness training to individuals overcoming homelessness, addiction, or trauma

Generate consistent funding to support our housing assistance, recovery programs, and family restoration efforts

Create a welcoming space where we can build relationships and walk alongside people toward healing and hope in Christ

Your support as a grant writer will directly help us bring this vision to life. The funds you help us secure will go toward startup costs—fixtures, inventory, staffing, and operations—so we can open our doors and begin serving the community in a tangible, sustainable way.

This thrift store isn’t just a place to shop—it’s a place where brokenness meets dignity, where practical help opens the door to spiritual transformation, and where every donated item has the potential to change a life.

As a volunteer, your skills will help launch something that will impact our community every single day—meeting needs, creating opportunities, and planting seeds of hope. You won’t just be writing grants—you’ll be helping build a legacy of restoration.
We are fully prepared and excited to support a skilled volunteer in making this project a success. Our leadership team is aligned and committed to launching our nonprofit thrift store as both a ministry extension and a long-term sustainability strategy for Headed Straight Up Ministries.

To prepare for this project, we’ve already:

Secured a physical space (within our existing office) to house the thrift store

Developed a preliminary startup budget, operational plan, and store vision

Identified local community needs and the ways our store can meet them—both economically and spiritually

Begun compiling core materials (501c3 paperwork, mission/vision statements, program descriptions, etc.) to support strong grant applications

We’ve also designated a primary point of contact who will be responsive, collaborative, and available for weekly check-ins and guidance.

Importantly, we’re committed to implementing the outcomes of this project immediately. The grant proposals and funding strategy developed will be directly used to secure the capital and startup support necessary to open the store and launch operations.

This thrift store is not just a project—it’s a vital part of our ministry’s future. We value your time and talent and are excited to partner with you to bring it to life.
