We’re seeking a skilled volunteer accountant or nonprofit finance professional to help us clean up our MoneyMinder records and review our overall tax setup. As a small nonprofit with limited internal financial expertise, we need someone who can work fairly independently and guide us through what needs to be corrected, why, and how to maintain best practices going forward.

Tasks include:
-Reviewing and cleaning up our MoneyMinder (chart of accounts, correcting categorization, etc.).
-Ensuring our bookkeeping aligns with nonprofit 501(c)(3) standards.
-Reviewing and advising on our tax setup to ensure we’re ready for year-end 990 filing.
-Identifying any monthly, quarterly, or annual tax/reporting responsibilities we may have in the United States.

Helping us understand any additional tax or compliance requirements specific to being a registered 501(c)(3) operating outside of the United States.

We are hoping for about 4 hours of support per week, with a goal to complete the project within 3-4 weeks.
The Cuenca Foundation invests in long-term change by facilitating opportunities that will create real and lasting change for individuals, families, and communities. We use food to break the cycle of poverty by addressing hunger first, giving people the opportunity to improve their lives, thereby creating long-term change for individuals, families, and communities facing adversity.

While we address food insecurity, we also address education and hygiene through our EmpowerEd and People and the Planet initiatives. We recognize that they are key components to ensuring long-term stability.

We focus on urban communities. The majority of Ecuadorians live in urban areas, and the inadequate employment rate in urban Ecuador is 54.9%.

Our food program distributes food kits to approximately 1,000 people, including the beneficiaries of three partner foundations that focus on extremely vulnerable children and the elderly. By partnering with others, we are able to extend our reach, deepen our understanding, and magnify our impact.

Occasionally our commitment includes crisis response. We believe that by addressing crises quickly we can avoid entrenched problems in the future.

This project is essential to helping us strengthen the financial backbone of The Cuenca Foundation so we can continue to help families achieve sustainable stability. We use food security as the foundation for health and hygiene, education, and generational change. The families on our program know that their children will have opportunities that they didn't have and our young people are starting to aquire the tools needed to attend university and drive their own futures. In order to keep our promises to them, it is critical that we maintain accurate, compliant financial systems.

Program Focus Areas:
Food Security
Education
Health and Hygiene
Domestic Violence
Youth Development
We’re committed to setting this project up for success by ensuring strong internal support and clear communication throughout. Our leadership team fully supports this effort, and we have designated a staff member who will work directly with the volunteer, provide access to necessary financial records, and be available for regular check-ins.
We’ve already gathered our existing MoneyMinder data, organized related financial documents, and outlined our primary goals for this project. We understand the importance of this work and are ready to implement any improvements or recommendations provided. We see this as a critical investment in our long-term stability and impact—and we’re excited to collaborate with a skilled volunteer who can help us get there.
