Volunteer Tech Strategist – Music Student–Teacher Finder Platform

We want to design the concept and strategy for a student–teacher finder platform (mobile app or website) that connects students of Gurmat Sangeet with qualified teachers worldwide. The platform will allow learners to browse teacher profiles, filter by style, gharana, availability, teaching format, and languages, and view video introductions to make informed choices. Safety guidelines and protocols will be integrated to ensure student protection.

We’re looking for a volunteer with computer science, web/app development, or UI/UX design experience to help us:
- Define the platform scope and tech requirements.
- Recommend the best platform type (app or web-based).
- Map the information architecture for teacher profiles and search filters.
- Advise on UI/UX principles for accessibility across all age groups.
- Suggest technical and operational strategies for integrating safety protocols.

The volunteer will work closely with GAAVANI’s leadership to outline the first phase of this project, which we aim to build in the future with additional technical resources.

Part of GAAVANI’s mission is to encourage all Sikh children to have a personal practice of Gurbani Kirtan and so we need to expand access to Gurmat Sangeet education globally. This platform will break down barriers by giving students around the world a safe, transparent, and accessible way to find and connect with the right teacher.

By building this digital bridge, we will:

Strengthen the global network of Sikh musicians and learners.

Create opportunities for teachers to expand their reach.

Preserve and promote the rich tradition of Gurmat Sangeet for future generations.

The volunteer’s contribution will help us design a first-of-its-kind tool that combines technology, culture, and education to create lasting impact.

We have:
- A clear vision and feature list for the platform.
- An initial master spreadsheet format for collecting teacher data.
- Internal alignment within GAAVANI on the project’s purpose and goals.
- Community access to both teachers and students who will benefit from the platform.

We will provide the volunteer with:
- Access to all reference materials and design inspiration.
- A direct decision-making contact for quick feedback and approvals.
- Ongoing collaboration via email, WhatsApp, or Zoom to ensure momentum.

The volunteer’s recommendations will directly inform the technical RFP for the platform’s build-out, ensuring that the concept moves efficiently into development.
