Project Overview

The William Gladden Foundation advances its mission by publishing books, short-reads and blogs about issues that adversely affect children and teens. We are seeking a volunteer proficient in the website builder Wix to update old blogs, as well as design and post new blogs that help optimize our website for search engines.

Abused, neglected, abandoned and other at-risk youths who end up in mental health, juvenile justice, foster or residential care are more likely as adults to experience homelessness, abuse substances, commit crimes, and end up in jail or prison than they are to graduate high school, learn a profession or achieve their full potential.

What a waste! Why are the placement experiences and adult outcomes of these vulnerable children so dismal?

Perspective! "The only source of knowledge is experience." ~ Albert Einstein

The various politicians, policymakers, professionals, foster parents, and other adults who comprise the child welfare system do not always know what is in the "best interests" of the vulnerable young people they serve. They lack the insightful knowledge that derives from personal experience. Despite their best wishes and best intentions, they tend to base their decisions on their own, often very different, life events and perceptions, not the unique needs and lived experiences of their traumatized young clients. This limited point of view is what inhibits the potential for at-risk youth to overcome their behavioral and emotional problems and mature into healthy, contributing members of society. Because our books, short-reads and blogs present the experiences, insights and recommendations of the "survivors" of the child welfare system, our library of publications is an antidote to this lack of essential client perspective. https://www.williamgladdenfoundationbooks.com/

A Taproot volunteer specializing in UX developed a user-friendly website promoting our library of publications about child abuse/neglect, foster care, juvenile justice, mental health and other child welfare issues. The WGF was awarded a Google Ad Grant account for nonprofits. We have posted 40 blogs on the website that were viewed by over 4,000 visitors.

The volunteer will work with our CEO (Dr. Waln Brown) to update old blogs and develop new blogs. Dr. Brown will manage the project post-completion.
