Project

Apply Now

We are seeking a dedicated volunteer researcher to help us gather information on the reading levels of students in four major cities: New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington DC. The collected data will be used to develop tangible goals for program expansion, with the aim of improving literacy rates and assisting with the college and career readiness planning process for black and brown girls in middle and high school.

As a volunteer researcher, your main responsibilities will include reviewing, analyzing, and extracting key information from existing reports on student reading levels in the specified cities. Your task will be to compile a comprehensive overview of relevant and current reading proficiency levels across different grade levels, utilizing the available resources. Collaborating with our team, your work will help to identify trends, patterns, specific benchmarks, and targets for improving literacy to inform The Dinner Table's existing book club program expansion goals.

If you are passionate about improving literacy and education outcomes, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students in these communities.

We have a list of places to access reports about students in the New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington DC public school systems. We also have our own data from our existing Book Club program.

The Dinner Table creates safe spaces for black and brown girls to share their truth; and provides resources so they can live at their fullest potential. We partner with schools and community organizations to provide young women of color (especially black girls) ages 10-18 with self-esteem building and identity-based college and career readiness programming and resources.
