We urgently seek a skilled volunteer to perform our annual financial audit pro bono. This audit is crucial for our nonprofit to remain compliant with IRS regulations and to maintain our status as a transparent and accountable organization. The volunteer will need to review our financial statements and ensure that all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted to the IRS. The volunteer’s contribution will not only help us fulfill our legal obligations but also enable us to continue our mission of serving our community without the financial burden of audit fees.

We have filed an extension for the 2023 tax year to allow adequate time for this audit to be completed effectively.

We are a vital incubator for NYC-based dance artists, dedicated to uplifting diverse perspectives and championing equity in the arts. In our theater and studios, we empower artists to tell their unique stories and share them with audiences.

However, to continue this important work, we are facing challenges that require immediate support. We endured a two-year closure during the pandemic when we were on the verge of overcoming previous debt. Despite this, we survived thanks to the generosity of volunteers. Today, we face new challenges due to the local government’s decision to reduce overall funding for the arts, resulting in less support than in previous years. To overcome these obstacles, we are focused on strategic initiatives such as board member expansion, fundraising, and leveraging our studio rental income, all while carefully managing expenses like our annual audit.

Volunteering for this project is about more than just supporting an annual audit; it’s about investing in the dance artists of NYC and ensuring that the cultural landscape here and beyond remains alive and thriving. The time and expertise volunteered to conduct our audit will help us meet IRS compliance and directly support a space where creativity and self-expression flourish. The impact of this volunteer effort will resonate far beyond the audit itself—it will empower diverse voices, fuel artistic innovation, and strengthen the community. This meaningful investment will have a lasting impact on our organization, making it a truly rewarding opportunity for those passionate about making a difference.

We are well-prepared to collaborate with a volunteer to complete our upcoming audit. Our organization has a long history of successfully managing audits, having worked with a CPA for the past 24 years. We’ve been operating with our current budget for the past five years, all under the consistent guidance of the same experienced staff and leadership team.

Preparations Made for the Project:
Extension Filed: We have filed an extension for our 2023 audit. This allows us the flexibility needed to collaborate effectively with a volunteer.

Historical Data and Documentation: We have meticulously maintained our financial records and documentation, making them readily available for review. This includes past audit reports, financial statements, and relevant tax filings.

Dedicated Team: Our dedicated team, which has been with the organization through multiple audit cycles, is fully committed to this project. They are prepared to provide any necessary information and support to the volunteers throughout the audit process in a timely and consistent manner.

Our experience with audits, combined with our prepared materials, committed staff, and the extension filed for 2023, positions us to fully support the volunteers in completing this project successfully and efficiently.

We are a dance-focused nonprofit and live performance venue dedicated to providing NYC-based dance artists with high-quality, sustainable opportunities to create and present their work. As an incubator for trailblazing artists, we foster a platform that broadens the city’s cultural dialogue and elevates diverse voices, particularly emphasizing LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. Our goal is to connect artists and audiences while minimizing barriers to entry.
