Give Us The Floor
Apply Now

We are seeking a volunteer to lead a comprehensive evaluation of our cybersecurity needs and implement effective solutions. This project will involve:
- Conducting a thorough risk assessment of our current systems.
- Identifying vulnerabilities and potential threats to data security.
- Developing and implementing strategies to protect sensitive information.
- Ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards, particularly concerning data on minors.
- Training our team on best practices for maintaining cybersecurity.

Ideal Candidate:
- Experienced in cybersecurity, particularly in apps or platforms dealing with sensitive data.
- Familiarity with privacy laws and regulations, especially those related to minors.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ youth and making a difference.

Give Us The Floor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth in distress through peer support. Our app connects youth with supportive, trained peers in a safe, anonymous environment, with adult intervention in crisis situations. We handle sensitive data, including information on minors, and ensuring the security of this data is our top priority.

Why Volunteer with Us?
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a cause that directly impacts the lives of vulnerable youth. Your expertise will help ensure the safety and security of our users, allowing them to continue receiving the vital support they need.

Preparations:
We've conducted an initial risk assessment of our current cybersecurity measures, focusing on data storage practices, user authentication methods, and encryption protocols. Our Technical Manager will support the volunteer throughout the research and implementation phases.

We've started researching industry best practices for securing applications that handle sensitive data, particularly for LGBTQ+ youth. This research will guide the volunteer's work and help prioritize tasks.

Implementation Plan:
Once the volunteer has completed the cybersecurity assessment and proposed solutions, we will document all recommended procedures and develop training materials for our staff. This will ensure everyone is equipped to follow the new security protocols.

We plan to implement the recommended solutions in phases, beginning with the most critical vulnerabilities. This approach will allow us to monitor the effectiveness of each change and make adjustments as needed.

After the cybersecurity measures are in place, we will establish a regular monitoring process to detect and respond to new threats. This includes scheduling regular security audits and keeping our team updated on best practices.

We intend to seek additional expert support to ensure our cybersecurity measures remain effective. Periodic evaluations will be conducted to assess the impact of these solutions on the safety and security of our users.

If 2SLGBTQIA+ young people can share freely and safely with peers the difficulties they go through, stigma and taboo are removed. They feel better and are able to believe in themselves and in the future.
