Storytelling Development
Are you a skilled storyteller who understands the power of narratives to inspire action and drive change? Jalawelo is seeking a Storytelling Strategist to help us develop a framework for effectively sharing stories of impact, resilience, and systemic social injustice.
We are preparing to launch our Imago Dei Circle Initiative which points to the importance of dignity and respect for all individuals and that will invite persons to embrace these values and also volunteer and support our mission, we need guidance in crafting a storytelling strategy that:
-Amplifies the voices of the communities we serve in Jamaica.
-Highlights systemic social injustices and faith-based responses to these challenges.
Engages donors, volunteers, and supporters with compelling narratives.
This volunteer role is focused on developing a plan and providing specific insights on best practices for impactful storytelling to meet the unique needs of our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess our current storytelling efforts and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop a strategic plan for collecting, crafting, and sharing powerful stories.
- Create a guideline or toolkit for our team and volunteers to use in future storytelling.
- Recommend best practices for integrating stories into social media, newsletters, reports, and fundraising efforts.
Who You Are
- An experienced storytelling strategist or content creator.
- Passionate about social justice, faith-based advocacy, and community development.
- Skilled in crafting narratives that drive engagement and action.
- Knowledgeable about digital storytelling tools, ethical storytelling, and nonprofit communications.
By helping Jalawelo develop a strategic approach to storytelling, the volunteer will equip us to share powerful narratives that highlight the impact of our work, amplify the voices of underserved communities, and expose systemic social injustices. A well-crafted storytelling framework will strengthen our advocacy, engage supporters, and inspire action, furthering our mission to empower changemakers and drive meaningful, lasting change.
We already have a vision for the outcomes we would like to see and have engaged individuals who will be trained to help us to craft the stories. We have already done some preliminary research on storytelling for nonprofits and we have identified examples of the types of stories we would like to tell.
